Here are all the things we're working on for the Green Team! Canvas Bags: • We'll be ordering some more canvas bags soon, in various sizes and possibly styles. When those come in we're going to need some creative ideas to make them awesome! Spray paint?? Screen prints?? Crazy designs?? Anything you can dream up!
• We're also going to need to research possibly partnering with KTA Superstores. We'd really like to get our I Heart Hilo bags into the community,selling them at various locations. One idea mentioned was having KTA on one side and I HeartHilo on the other. Got your own ideas? Let me know!
Going Green In Hilo: • We'd like to partner with existing organizations/businesses that have gone or are going "green." We need to research who these organizations/businesses are, what they do, and how we can help. Anyone know of an online list of these organizations? Anyone willing to contact State or County offices (find out if they have a list)? We also want to develop a "street team"- these people would go out into the community and personally connect with these businesses/organizations. Anyone know Recyling Betty? We'd like to contact her concerning various recycling projects. Got any ties to Abundant Life, Island Naturals? We'd like to establish relationships with the natural food shops in Hilo.
Paper Recycling: • Research: Are you willing to do some in order to find out where we’re going to take all this paper?? Possible research options: contacting State of Hawaii for list of facilities; internet. • We’re going to need to establish pick up teams, who would retrieve paper to be recycled from different businesses/organizations that have agreed to start recycling. Interested? It’d be really awesome if everyone on the Green Team would agree to recycle paper used at home, work, school, etc!
Adopt-A-Highway • Need to research existing “adopted highways”- what organizations are involved, how we can help, what are the cleanup dates? Going to need to contact these organizations and offer our services (manpower). • Also need to research how to adopt a highway (in the future, I Hilo would like to have its own highway to give TLC to!). • We’re going to need volunteers to clean, clean, clean!!
Pamphlet/Website Tab • Research: Tips on how to go green, specifically in Hilo. There may already by existing websites like this. If we can find some, we’ll throw those links up on ihearthilo.com! We need creative and innovative ideas on how to go green. • We also want to post personal experiences, interviews, statistics (how exactly does recycling impact the environment?), pictures (i.e. of the Hilo landfill… yuck! Anyone willing to go there and take pics?) on the site.

Just wanted to let you know that I have been trying to get a hold of Recycling Betty. She hasn't returned my message...I will keep trying but maybe you should try as well. Maybe she doesn't like me. :(
Also a little Green Positive. At Hilo Borders Starbucks we have been recycling 9 garbage bags full of plastic every week!! crazy!
